Everything you need to know about SafeBERTH

Frequently Asked Questions

Is SafeBERTH free to use?

Yes. Reading ratings and browsing the map is free for everyone. Submitting reports requires a free account.

How is the safety score calculated?

Scores use Bayesian smoothing with recency weighting and reporter trust levels. Confirmed reports count 1.5× more than unconfirmed ones. Berths need at least 3 reports before a full score is shown.

How can I verify my seafarer status?

Register with a recognised maritime company email, or upload proof of employment. Verified seafarers' reports carry higher weight in the score.

What are the 8 safety categories?

Access / Gangway · Fenders / Proximity · Quay Condition · Mooring Safety · Port Infrastructure · Crew Welfare · Emergency Equipment · Overall Impression. The first 7 feed into the safety score; Overall Impression is shown separately.

Can port operators respond to reports?

A right-of-reply feature for port operators is planned for the next release. Operators will be able to submit official statements visible below disputed reports.

How do I report inaccurate content?

Use the Flag button on any report. Multiple independent flags trigger automatic hiding pending review. You can also submit a formal takedown request for legally sensitive content.

Is my data stored in the EU?

Yes. All data is hosted in EU-based data centres and processed in compliance with the GDPR.
